About

At the center of the Public and Cultural Diplomacy Public and Cultural Diplomacy - Public Diplomacy programme offered by the University of Siena are two themes: the role of intercultural negotiation and the construction of institutions and, cultural policies at an international level.

The main disciplines are history, political science, cultural heritage in certain areas such as the Mediterranean, geography, economic development, and international law. These complimentary disciplines encourage diverse educational experiences: on one hand, knowledge and skills from experts in public diplomacy and conflict resolution, on the other hand, professional training in cultural institutions at an international level.

The Master’s program in Public and Cultural Diplomacy is based on the “Science for development cooperation” style, with a strong emphasis on international studies, and is approached in a significantly different way to already existing programs.

In fact, this innovative program uses different perspectives through its course offerings, international partnerships, and organizational training. The majority of the classes are specifically developed for this program and it also considers the new roles that public diplomacy offers, such as international cooperation, planning and cultural diffusion on a global scale, social communication of cultural affairs, experience in conflict resolution, cultural policy planning, international facilitation and mediation, and scientific journalism.

Particular attention will be paid to fieldwork, educational seminars for developing practical competencies for this type of program, and the final exam.
