Overview
Students in the Applied Mathematics MA program offered Eastern Kentucky University may select a concentration in Secondary Mathematics or Applied Mathematics and Statistics. All students are required to take Applied Linear Algebra, Combinatorial Optimization, Mathematical Statistics, and Applied Mathematics Capstone; students may choose between Technology for Teaching & Research and Statistical Methods Using SAS as part of the core.
Program Highlights:
- 30 credit hours
- Unique applied core and choice of two concentrations (Secondary Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Statistics)
- Customizable program that allows students to choose courses geared toward careers in education, industry, or government
- More than 18 hours of graduate credits in mathematics, which allows participants to teach at the post-secondary level or teach dual-credit courses
- Convenient course meeting times for graduate students with full-time jobs or otherwise busy schedules (hybrid classes with 3 Saturday meetings per semester, e-Presence classes that allow students to attend via webcam, and some evening and online classes)
- Regular offerings of graduate mathematics (content and pedagogical) courses designed for mathematics teachers
- Various applied mathematics and statistics courses that provide students with highly marketable skills such as data analysis and computing
- Capstone course with individualized project to meet exit requirement
- Degree can be applied toward Rank 1 or Rank 2

- GRE scores of at least 144 in Verbal Reasoning and at least 147 in Quantitative Reasoning (GRE waived for applicants with undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0)
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5
- Required prerequisites for the core courses in mathematics (applicants who do not have this preparation may be granted admission but are required to take the courses needed to strengthen their backgrounds)
- Initial certification in secondary mathematics required for those seeking a change in rank
