Overview

The Finance program from University of Massachusetts Boston participates in the CFA® Institute University Affiliation Program. This participation signals that our curriculum is closely tied to the practice of investment management and is helpful to students preparing for the CFA exams. On an annual basis our program awards as many as 10 CFA student scholarships.

In the MSF, you will:

Analyze and interpret financial statements, develop financial models, and make informed financial decisions
Learn to assess and manage risk, including market, credit, and operational risks, to mitigate financial losses
Develop a comprehensive understanding of financial theory and practices, as well as the ethical considerations and legal frameworks that underpin the finance industry.

What you'll learn

The program emphasizes education on quantitative techniques in finance to meet the increasing demand for such skills in the finance job market. The MSF program is STEM-designated, allowing international students to apply for up to three years of Optional Practical Training (OPT) in the United States upon graduation.

Structure and outcomes

The program is designed for students with different academic backgrounds; a bachelor's degree in finance is not required and can be completed full-time or part-time, with classes that meet primarily in the evenings, late afternoons, and online. Scheduling is highly flexible, with most classes meeting once per week. Graduates with an MSF have been hired by State Street, Fidelity, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and more.
