The Counseling program of Ball State University is a flexible, challenging program that prepares you to become a counseling professional dedicated to helping people and making the world a better and more just place. We offer this program in two concentrations: clinical mental health counseling or rehabilitation counseling.

General requirements

  • You must have a bachelor’s degree from an institution recognized by a regional accrediting association.
  • Our program requires you to take the GRE.
  • You will need to have completed at least 15 semester hours or 24 quarter hours of undergraduate psychology courses (educational, social, counseling, or general psychology).
  • You must have earned a minimum of a 2.75 GPA from the undergraduate degree-granting institution.
  • We strongly recommend you have experiences including: counseling or volunteering, research (i.e. publications, honor’s thesis, professional presentations, or research assistantship)
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae.
  • Letters of Recommendation.
  • Coursework and Answers to Questions and Essays.
  • Ball State must receive transcripts for all applicants.
  • Complete our online application.
  • Applications are $60 per program.
