Description
The University is pleased to provide a Sanctuary Scholarship, specifically designed to support undergraduate and postgraduate applicants and current students who are seeking sanctuary in the UK.
Benefits
A minimum of six scholarships are available.
Tuition fees
Applicants are encouraged to apply for government funding, where eligible, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The Sanctuary Scholarship will cover any tuition fee remaining after the public funding amount.
The scholarship provides the following amounts to pay for accommodation:
Postgraduate research and taught accommodation: the equivalent accommodation value of £10,762
Undergraduate accommodation: the equivalent accommodation value of £9,119
As part of the scholarship, you will receive a weekly living allowance of £110, which will be paid monthly for the following number of weeks:
Undergraduate students: 39 weeks per academic year
Postgraduate students: 52 weeks per academic year
Eligibility
The Sanctuary Scholarship is open to any applicant or current student who has an official Home Office status as one of the following:
- Asylum Seeker
- Refugee
- Humanitarian protection with forced migration background
- Limited leave to remain with forced migration background
- Discretionary leave to remain with forced migration background
As part of the application, you will be asked to upload a personal statement no longer than two pages which includes:
- a description of your personal financial need, your current financial circumstances, and any anticipated changes to your personal or family income
- the impact of your forced migration status on your access to higher education
- any further information in support of your answers to the application questions
You will also need to provide evidence of your household income. If you are an asylum seeker and are unable to provide household evidence, please upload evidence confirming your official Home Office Status.

This scholarship is available through the relevant undergraduate or postgraduate St Andrews Sanctuary Scholarship application in the Scholarships and funding catalogue in the Scholarships and funding section of My application, or MySaint if you are a current student at the University of St Andrews.
