The University of Porto was formally created on 22 March 1911, as a result of the newly implanted republican system. However, it stems, since the 18th century, from many combined experiences of training in Science, Arts and Medicine, which would lead to the future University.

Consisting of three main sites known as Polos spreading out over 500 thousand square metres all over the city of Porto (Polo I – downtown; Polo II Asprela (northern Porto); Polo III Campo Alegre (western bank, river Douro) and a fourth site outside the city, in Vairão, our University includes 15 schools. Since the University of Porto was founded in 1911, its students have organised themselves in associations. Over 100 years later, the most relevant ones are Student Associations. I started my studies in Brazil. There I was the third best student in my class in a public university called Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). In Portugal I suffered with the intercultural shock, had depression, and my notes decreased. However, I can say that I have grown in ways I can not express. I am much more mature now and, even though this is not my first time...
