History
With origins dating back to 1897, UWS is one of Scotland's most innovative modern universities. The four UWS campuses cover the west and south-west of Scotland in Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton and Paisley, as well as a new campus in London.

UWS offers a wealth of support for our students - whether it's funding advice, study support or wellbeing, you will find the help you need, and the right people to speak to here.
Help and advice is available on all aspects of life at UWS, from funding and counselling, to support on developing your future career, and in the library.
As an international student at UWS we recognise that you will have specific support needs and so we have dedicated International Student Advisers who are there to help with issues relating to student visas, immigration advice, advice on working in the UK, letters for relatives’ visits, financial queries, welfare and health benefits and your general welfare.
Housing services
Whether you choose a modern en-suite or studio flat at our recently opened Ayr Campus, one of our private flats in the picturesque town of Dumfries, take advantage of the new £13.2million student accommodation which opened at Paisley in September 2012 or simply want to be at the heart of campus life in Hamilton, there’s never been a better time to stay in our student residences. With accommodation starting from just £85 per week, UWS accommodation is an affordable choice.

Information, Technology & Digital Services (ITDS) cover a wide range of areas such as your student email, virtual learning environment (VLE), wireless access and your home drive.
Medical services
The Health and Safety Services Department is based in the Richardson Building on the Paisley Campus and provides services to all staff and students. We develop the University’s Health and Safety Policy and monitor all aspects of Health and Safety.

Sports facilities
The University encourages students to be as active as possible and provides all the facilities you’ll need to lead a sporting life.
As well as the University’s sports provision, the West of Scotland is blessed with an extensive range of recreational amenities, including world-class mountain biking, sailing, golf, swimming and horse-riding facilities.
Student clubs
Your union is run by the Students’ Association (SAUWS) for students, by students. It provides a wide range of services and is the collective voice for our student population and the recognised channel of communication between students and the University.
