History
Classes began at the UNSW Institute of Languages in its first premises in Kensington in 1968. One year later, Intensive English courses were run for Czechoslovakian refugees, and by 1973 around 600 students were studying English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. In 2006, the Institute is integrated into UNSW Global Pty Limited and the current Kensington campus opened in 2007.

Diplomas
- A Diploma can launch you straight into Second Year of your chosen undergraduate degree. This 12-month program is equivalent to your First Year at university, and you can choose from Architecture, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Media and Communications or Science.
- With four programs of varying lengths and streams that align with UNSW’s degree programs, our programs are designed so you’re well-prepared for university.
- With our range of Academic English programs, you will learn how to communicate effectively, participate in lectures and tutorials, read and understand university-level texts, and build your confidence before starting university.

Here you will meet our Student Services team ready to help you with everything from administration, student wellbeing, accommodation and academic support.
Housing services
There is a range of UNSW-managed or independent college accommodation options. Located on campus or nearby, you can choose from fully, partly or self-catered accommodation. There are also gender-specific options including male-only, female-only and mixed. Most colleges cater for dietary requirements such as halal, kosher and vegetarian.

Library services
The Library holds a wide range of resources including books, journals, films, music, maps, theses and government publications. Some are available online, some can be borrowed or requested, while others are for use within the Library only. Medical services
Our on-site health and lifestyle services include a medical clinic, optometrist, dentist, doctor and physiotherapist. You will also have access to medical and dental services at UNSW Health Services, and free, confidential consultations at UNSW Counselling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
Campus life
Our newly refurbished UNSW College campus mirrors the look and feel of the UNSW main campus – featuring a student focused furniture layout and areas for private group work or individual study. You’ll have access to UNSW’s world-class library, design studios, engineering and science labs. Access, cafés and restaurants, a supermarket, a religious centre, UNSW Fitness and Aquatic Centre, tennis courts and sporting fields.
Sports facilities
- The UNSW Fitness and Aquatic Centre offers a variety of facilities for all ages and abilities, including pools, indoor badminton and basketball courts, and many more.
- Whether you’re keen to get active, want to represent UNSW against other universities or just have fun and meet new people, Arc Sport has a range of individual and team activities to choose from.
Student clubs

We have more than 300 student clubs and societies, where you can practise your hobbies and connect with people who share your interests. Plus, our Student Services Team offers an introductory tour of Sydney, trips to popular Sydney attractions, and fun sporting and cultural events.
