History
Historically, Southern UC has its origin 46 years ago (in 1975) in Foon Yew High School, Johor Bahru, offering an Advanced Studies Programme. In 1986, the Foon Yew Board of Directors applied to the Ministry of Education to set up a community funded college. Southern University College (also known as Southern UC) attained its current status in 2012.
Education
The Faculty offers quality courses with focus on integrated theories and practices to enhance multi-intelligence, leadership, creativity and resilience through innovative teaching methodologies reinforced by case studies and small group discussions. The Faculty offers seven home-grown degrees, four diploma programmes, one master’s degree and two doctoral degrees. All the programmes have been approved by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Ministry of Higher Education.

The Student Residence was built in 2001. The student residence is located on the campus, opposite the main building.
There are four blocks of student residences. Each block consists of five floors. Female students are separated from male students. Sixty rooms are available where three students share a room. Basic amenities are clean and well-maintained.
Students living on campus are expected to experience happy and harmonious life through their stay and, at the same time, develop self-discipline.
Campus life
Johor Bahru, also known as JB, is the southernmost city in Malaysia and also the capital of Johor. It is the 2nd largest city in Malaysia with more than 2.7 million inhabitants. There’s never a dull moment living in JB. There are many places to explore and to enjoy your meals. People can also enjoy the convenience of public transport while travelling around JB. Students who study at Southern UC can also enjoy the dynamic campus life.

Student clubs
Southern University College is home to 50 student societies, which can be grouped into the following categories: Student Union and Academic Societies, Sports Societies, Performance Societies, Religious and Charity Societies, Language Societies, and others. The activities of the societies provide students with ample opportunities to interact with each others and develop their interpersonal communication skills. By encouraging cooperation between students and the community, students will practice and realise the noble idea of “Paying Back to the Society”. We fervently hope that young lives should be full of vital force so that a memorable university life can be savoured in the future.
