School of Transnational Governance

The STG was established in 2017, with the aim to deliver teaching and high level training on the concepts, methods and techniques of governance beyond the state. The School is based at the EUI in Florence. The institute was founded in 1972 by the six original members of the then European Communities. Since then the EUI has earned a reputation as a leading international academic institution. 

The STG organises Executive Training Seminars that combine scientific expertise with hands-on learning for experienced professionals in policy, diplomacy, NGOs, international organisations, media and the private sector .

Moreover, we offer Fellowships for Policy Professionals from around the world to further develop their policy work and professional skills. Beside that, we also host expert Policy Dialogues and are conducting an Oral History project to record the experiences of European Institution presidents. 

In 2020, we will launch a policy-focussed Master's programme for graduates. The programme will be structured around cross-disciplinary clusters in various policy fields. 

The STG develops its teaching and training based on the study and analysis of three core thematic clusters: 

• Peace and Security
• International Trade and Finance Cluster 
• Sustainability (Climate, Migration, Welfare) 

The core thematic clusters are complemented with four cross-cutting thematic clusters, providing an additional layer of thematic or geographical reach: 

• Comparative Regional Governance
• Gender Governance
• Digital Politics
• Economy and Societies
• Transnational Politics and Democracy

Students are equipped with all the practical skills they need to build an excellent career, preparing them to hold leadership and management positions in government, non-profit organisations, international organisations, research institutions and private sector multi-national companies.

To complement the foundational knowledge acquired in the teaching courses, we offer a wide range of training opportunities in project management, leadership, gender mainstream, networking, fundraising, career and CV tutoring and more. In addition, students will participate in executive education and training programmes and undertake an internship in the summer between their first and second year.
