European University Institute (EUI)

The European University Institute (EUI) is a unique international centre for doctorate and post-doctorate studies and research, situated in the Tuscan hills overlooking Florence.

Master's Programmes

Since its founding in 1972 by the six original members of the then European Communities, the EUI has earned a reputation as a leading international academic institution with a European focus.

The four departments – Economics, History and Civilization, Law, and Political and Social Sciences – host scholars from more than 60 countries, studying for the Institution’s doctorate or the one-year master in law.

  • The Robert Schuman Centre focuses on three research themes and aims to address key questions about the functioning of the European Union and its role in the 21st century.
  • The EU is the world’s most developed case of transnational integration; research on the European institutions, governance and democracy has long been at the core of our mission.
  • It aims to understand the interaction of different dimensions of integration and evaluate their characteristics and tensions. In addition, the Union provides a rich laboratory for the study of multileveled governance, new modes of governance and the governance tools the EU has to address societal challenges.

The report compares the career trajectories of MW Fellows and those applicants to the MW Programme who were either offered a Fellowship and turned it down or were sufficiently highly ranked to be long-listed or put on the reserve list for a Fellowship.
