Established in 1828 by pioneer Methodists, McKendree is the oldest college in Illinois, and the oldest in the nation with continuous ties to the United Methodist Church. In July 2007 McKendree College officially became McKendree University.
The University offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs to develop our students’ knowledge, analytical abilities, research capabilities, creativity, and sense of identity.
The McKendree University Journal of Undergraduate Research was founded to create a forum for superior undergraduate research, to encourage undergraduate research and scholarly writing, and provide its staff with a challenging academic experience.

First year Bearcats have the opportunity to live in either traditional or suite-style residence halls. Each location offers unique programming for new students to make a smooth transition to college life.
Students living in the traditional residence halls share a room with one other student. Each fully furnished, air-conditioned hall is co-ed by floor and offers one large community bathroom and laundry room on each floor. Both cable and internet are provided for students.
The Holman Library is the main hub of the kind on campus.
The McKendree campuses provide general access computer labs in many locations. Use of the labs is free (except for printing) for anyone with a valid McK login.
Each lab may have a different set or subset of software installed, but at the base, each computer will have:
Health services includes assessment and treatment of common illnesses, injuries, and medical problems; health education and over the counter medications are available at no charge. The nurse practitioner is available to evaluate, treat and prescribe for illnesses as well as continuum of care such as refills of routine medications.
The Lebanon campus of McKendree University is located in a charming community of about 4,000 people with a downtown business district within easy walking distance of the campus.
