History
For the past 800 years, the University of Montpellier (UM) has strived to address scientific and societal challenges.With 16 schools and institutes, and 78 research structures, UM brings together a vast community of knowledge ranging from science, technology, medicine, pharmacy, physical and sports activities, to law, political science, economics and management.
Education
The University of Montpellier provides multidisciplinary educational programs and courses, from medicine, biology, chemistry, agro-environment and engineering sciences to political science, business, law and economics.
UM works closely with the job market stakeholders, and provides guidance to students to help them build their customized university and professional project.

Research
UM provides its researchers with the required technological platforms and facilities for cutting-edge research.
It works in partnership with the Montpellier University Hospital, which ranks 6th in France, and the Nîmes University Hospital, as well as with numerous research institutions represented in Montpellier including CNRS, INSERM, INRA, CIRAD, IRD, INRIA, IRSTEA, CEA, IFREMER, and BRGM.

Best Global Universities Rankings by U.S. News & World Report presents all the top universities from the U.S. and 60 other countries around the world. They measure the rate of students going to their second year of studies, as well as the rate of students who graduate. It also asks university representatives on the performance of universities, and evaluates university resources, teacher salaries, graduation rates, student academic achievements and satisfaction. After calculating and comparing these criteria, U.S. News ranks the top international universities accordingly.
Student services
A community outreach network has been set up to make university life as easy as possible. Offices for information, integration and career guidance services, international relations, physical and sports activities as well as preventive medicine and health promotion allow for proximity within the university community.
Housing services
The CROUS offers accommodation in university dormitories and residences. Dormitories monthly rent ranges from about €15 to €380 depending on the level of comfort. Students coming in the framework of an exchange programme get priority.
Library services
The library is open to students from the two universities of Montpellier in the fields of Science, Health, Law and Political Science, Economics and Management, Humanities, Languages, Social Sciences. Access is free and open to all on-site consultation. Registration allows the loan of documents and access to many services.
Campus life
Located right at the heart of Montpellier, UM’s various sites advocate a university life that is fully integrated in the urban fabric. All sites are located near Tramway 1 line and 4 line and form a real campus network.
Ranking as the 3rd French city where it is pleasant to study, Montpellier enjoys exceptional advantages: 300 days of sun per year, easy access to the sea (15 minutes’ drive) and France’s largest pedestrian city center.
