Blekinge Institute of Technology, BTH, has a distinctive focus on the digitalisation of society and sustainability. BTH’s task is to contribute to a more sustainable societal development through higher education, research and innovation.

BTH was founded in 1989 which means that we are a young institute who manage education and research in new ways but with high quality.

BTH offers top quality education and research. There are eight Master´s programmes in English, in a variety of fields, ranging from engineering to strategic leadership towards sustainibility.  There are also several PhD programmes.

The university is ranked second in the world and number one in Europe in systems and software engineering, as well as number one in Sweden, and number three in Europe, in sustainability research.

BTH is a university where the research is applied, i.e. the purpose of the research is to seek new knowledge with a view to a definite application. Research is conducted in collaboration with both business and industry as well as society, and always with a clear focus – that the results will contribute to solving the challenges facing society.

BTH conducts a considerable amount of research. Today, research and research studies account for one third of our activities. Research is conducted at two faculties within the fields of engineering, IT, spatial planning, industrial economics and health sciences, all connected under the profile of applied IT, which researchers approach from different perspectives.

Student Life

Campus life

BTH is located in the county Blekinge in the south-eastern part of Sweden and has campuses in Karlskrona and Karlshamn.

The campuses are both on the seafront and it is not unusual that visitors say that BTH has Sweden’s most beautifully situated campuses.

Although both Karlskrona and Karlshamn are rather small towns, the large metropolises Copenhagen and Stockholm are not far away. It takes only some 50 minutes to fly to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.

Our campuses are ideal for outdoor activities, but they are still close to whatever practicalities you need in everyday life. Food stores, shops, cinemas, pubs – everything is easily reached.

Anonymous rated 4 out of 5 stars

One of the best things about college life is that you get a new experience every day. In my college life, along with studying, I and my friends enjoyed a lot of other things. We traveled to lots of places, had new experiences, and learned many new things.
