In 1907, a board of trustees was elected; and on February 9, 1910, the incorporation certificate for the Baptist University of Oklahoma was issued and a new university was born. Oklahoma Baptist University opened in September 1911, holding classes in the basement of the First Baptist Church and in the Convention Hall of Shawnee.
10 bachelor's degrees in 88 areas of study. Five master's degrees, eight certificate programs and an Intensive English Program for international students are offered at the OBU College of Graduate and Professional Studies.
The Career Development Office provides career assessment services, information concerning vocational opportunities for students and alumni as well as providing opportunities to connect with employers, graduate schools, etc. We strive to support students by assisting them in discovering, realizing and pursuing the highest and best uses of their God-given talents. Our goal is to effectively equip students with the necessary skills to prepare for life beyond OBU.

I enjoyed my time at OBU and am honored to call myself alumni. The only reason that I struggle to give it a 5 is because online students can quickly fall through the cracks if they aren't careful. The community aspect of Ouachita makes learning more enjoyable and it is a breath of fresh air to be amongst so many scholars who truly want to learn. I absolutely love their mission and Christian values. They care about the whole student, not just their formal education.

Representing more than 30 countries and 5 continents, our International Students, MKs, and TCKs meaningfully contribute to our student body with the unique perspectives and experiences they bring.
Residence life at OBU is more than just a bunch of buildings placed on a campus. It's about the relationships you create with brothers and sisters in Christ. OBU intentionally provides opportunities for students to live around peers and mentors. The progressive independent living model recognizes that students grow and change through their university experience. As they mature, they should be given more independence. The goal is to create an environment that encourages personal, spiritual, and academic growth that fosters the basic values of Christian community. We understand life is messy, but this is why we do it together -- to help build each other up in Christ.
The Mabee Learning Center's collections of more than 212,000 bound volumes, 310,000 microform holdings, and more than 11,000 items of music scores, recordings, and other media, are accessed by more than 185,000 visits each year. The Media Center provides access to technologies necessary for listening to the multiple formats in the library collection: iPads, projectors, and online streaming.
The campus nurse consults with students concerning health needs and practices. The nurse is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The nurse advises students concerning health problems, assists in contacting a physician, and plans/promotes health education programs campus-wide.
OBU’s Bison and Lady Bison student athletes compete in 21 varsity sports, including football, men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, golf, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, soccer, swimming/diving, tennis, men’s baseball, and women’s softball, women's lacrosse and volleyball. Football returned to campus in fall 2013 for the first game since 1940.
Oklahoma Baptist University hosts over sixty active student organizations for students. Organizations cover a wide range of interests and/or areas of study. Involvement in student organizations is one of the best ways to be active OBU and meet others who share similar interests.
