History

Westminster College was born January 21, 1852 in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, with an affiliation with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). As one of the earliest coeducational colleges in the nation, Westminster was founded to promote the spirit and values of Christianity while focusing on the development of the individual – intellectually, spiritually, and socially – which still rings true today.

The mission of Westminster College is to help men and women develop competencies, commitments and characteristics which have distinguished human beings at their best. The liberal arts tradition is the foundation of the curriculum continually designed to serve this mission in a rapidly changing world.

Library services

Community patrons are welcome in the McGill Library, dedicated in 1938 and most recently renovated in 2009. In addition to online and traditional print academic resources, the library has a wonderful children’s book collection and the Community-College Bookshelf, which features popular fiction and non-fiction. Family borrowing cards are available to community patrons for $10 per year.

Campus life

Browne Hall is a three-floor facility, each containing a large community bathroom as well as single, double, and triple bedrooms. It currently provides housing for first-year and upperclass women. It was built in 1928, and named for Dr. Robert A. Browne, Westminster's second president.

Special Features of Browne Hall

  • Immediately next door to Duff Dining Hall and the Titan Club
  • Within a 2-3 minute walk to all classroom buildings
  • Centrally located on campus, and situated across from the library
  • Laundry facilities located on the ground floor
  • Data connections to the college computer system in every room

Sports facilities

  • Home to the Titan basketball and volleyball programs, the main gymnasium seats 2,300 fans for varsity events.
  •  An auxiliary gym is directly adjacent to the main gym to allow flexibility in scheduling for all teams and includes indoor batting cages for baseball and softball.
  • The Titan swimming teams compete in the Westminster Natatorium, which is also available to the campus community for leisure swimming.
  • Completed in 1994, the fitness center provides all students, including varsity athletes, with a state-of-the-art weight and fitness training facility. 
  • The center features a large free weight section, as well as over 40 pieces of selectorized and aerobic equipment.
