History
In the fall of 1887, Nebraska Wesleyan University began its first year with 96 students. Sunflowers grew abundantly around the campus and, in 1894, the sunflower was adopted as the "official emblem" along with its gold and brown colors. The class of 1895's memorial stone still stands northwest of Old Main.
Education
The University is committed to excellence of academic endeavor and to learning as a lifelong process. The curricula and programs are designed to assist students in gaining and expanding knowledge and skills, in developing their competence in rational thought and communication, in broadening their perspectives on humanity and culture, and in enhancing their spiritual, physical, emotional, and aesthetic resources.
Research
You don’t need to attend an enormous research institution to be a part of exciting research. In fact, Nebraska Wesleyan connects undergraduates to the quality research opportunities that students at most schools wouldn’t find until graduate school. And these opportunities begin in your first year at Nebraska Wesleyan.
Career
Securing the best job or internship often involves more than simply searching open positions. It takes time and can be stressful, but the Career Center is here to support students toward a successful search through personalized career coaching and resources.
This handbook provides strategies for conducting a job search, developing your personal brand, applying, interviewing, evaluating job offers, and tips for succeeding in your first year on the job.
