Founded as Florida Presbyterian College, we opened our doors on Sept. 2, 1960, with 155 first-year students and 22 faculty. We have grown steadily over the years and became Eckerd College in 1972.

Every student at Eckerd takes four years of classes across a wide variety of fields – art, literature, the natural and social sciences – regardless of their major. Often called General Education, these courses provide the skills you’ll need to thrive over the long term: critical thought, the ability to make complex decisions and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Career Services will assist you as you plan your graduate program. Students are also encouraged to work with faculty members in their disciplines to prepare for graduate school.

Eckerd is truly a unique place, Im convinced there is no place likely. Super welcoming and everyone can find their place. Going to Eckerd definitely opened my mind to new ways of thinking. That being said it is not for everyone.
My education has been fine. I have learned a lot and it is a great school but it only has undergrade.

From hotel-style living spaces with privately shared bathrooms in each room to a three-story waterfront facility with eleven complete apartment suites per floor, we have some sweet housing options for first-years to seniors.
Every hall includes laundry services as well as a student lounge – complete with TV, full kitchen, couches and study nooks – where you can read, chat or make food. All rooms include wi-fi and basic cable.
The Armacost Library offers an array of services that extend its usefulness and function beyond the Eckerd campus.
From network connections and e-mail accounts to online course materials and computer labs, to computer repair and classroom systems and much more, the Information Technology Services (ITS) team of staff and student assistants exists to provide professional assistance to college faculty, students, and staff for all their technology needs.
From the flu to more serious illnesses, the nurse practitioner and medical director in the Health Center are ready to help. The Center accepts most medical insurance coverage and all services are completely confidential.
If there is a paradise, this might just be it. Nestled between two of the country’s top 10 beaches, Eckerd’s 188-acre waterfront campus offers mangrove thickets, seven freshwater marshes and ponds, a white sand beach and its own marina.
With 361 days of sunshine per year, our setting pretty much guarantees year-round outdoor living. From wakeboarding to long boarding, Zumba to weight training, our students stay fit by staying active.
In addition to athletics — including NCAA Division II athletics, club sports and intramurals — and one of the largest collegiate Waterfront programs in the Southeast, you can choose to participate in over 100 student organizations.
