History
At Carthage, we’ve seen 170 years of leaders, makers, and go-getters go out and go forth. We’ve changed our name — and even our location — since we were founded in 1847. But the core of a Carthage education has stayed the same: Our liberal arts foundation provides students with a strong academic, moral, and intellectual compass, so they become perceptive, resourceful, and grounded individuals.
Education
The Carthage curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary study and hands-on learning. Receive individual attention from professors at the top of their fields. Learn to tackle topics from new directions — and in new places. Solve problems by conducting your own research. Transform into a lifelong learner.
Research
Carthage places a major emphasis on undergraduate research and scholarship. Early and often in their time at Carthage, students are challenged to perform original study under the close guidance of experienced faculty.
Career
Carthage is a great place to advance your career. The 80-acre campus is located on the Lake Michigan shore in Kenosha, Wisconsin, midway between Milwaukee and Chicago.

Student services
College isn’t easy, obviously. Mastering new skills, expanding every part of your brain, gaining knowledge, and preparing for the Real World is going to take a lot out of you. Fortunately, Carthage surrounds you with the tools and support you need to succeed.
Housing services
The best collegiate experience is one where the curriculum and co-curriculum are seamlessly integrated. With this value in mind, full-time undergraduate students are required to live in the residence halls and be enrolled in a meal plan until they attain senior standing. Carthage’s residence halls offer an exciting environment for living and learning. Our halls provide easy access to educational programs, leadership opportunities, and a full calendar of social activities.
Library services
Carthage has glass-walled classrooms that host both business and religion courses, a 65,000 sq. ft. modern library that has ancient documents and cutting-edge technology, a building that houses a green house and two theatres, and another that allows you to practice a sonata and then take a class about World War II in the same hallway.
Medical services
The Carthage Health and Counseling Center assists students in addressing physical, mental, and emotional well-being. All services are free and confidential, and are provided by experienced professionals trained to attend to the concerns of young adults in college.
Campus life
Carthage College is ideally located in Kenosha, Wisconsin, midway between Chicago and Milwaukee. Our 80-acre campus is an arboretum and wildlife sanctuary. Our backyard is the shoreline of the great Lake Michigan.
Student clubs
What’s your passion? Chances are Carthage students have formed a club that celebrates it. There are more than 120 student organizations active on campus, with more being formed each year.
Accreditation
Carthage has been continuously accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1916, when the association became the primary accrediting agency for schools in the Midwest.
