History
Elmhurst University traces its history back to 1871, when the German Evangelical Synod of the Northwest founded the Elmhurst Proseminary to prepare young men for theological seminary and to train teachers for parochial schools.

Research
- PUMA-STEM Alliance. The Promotion of Underrepresented Minorities in Academic STEM (PUMA-STEM) Alliance is focused on strengthening underrepresented minority student success in STEM, incorporating faculty mentoring and high-quality research experiences to support career preparation.
- Research and Performance Showcase. This yearly showcase allows students from across the academic disciplines to share their accomplishments and demonstrate talents before a live audience.
- Institutional Review Board (IRB). The Elmhurst University IRB has been established to protect the rights and welfare of human research subjects recruited to participate in research activities conducted at or sponsored by Elmhurst University.

Housing services
If you live on campus as a first-year student, you will live in a residence hall with a roommate. As a first-year student, you can request a roommate by mutually listing each other on the housing application.
Cureton Hall
- This air-conditioned residence hall features double and single rooms arranged in small communities. The Honors Living Learning Community and the True Colors Community are housed in two of the small communities in Cureton.
Dinkmeyer Hall
- Overlooking the University Mall, Dinkmeyer features suite-style rooms and a large central lounge.
Niebuhr Hall
- Overlooking the University Mall, Niebuhr offers housing for first-year students in double rooms.
Medical services
The Wellness Center provides basic health care services to all registered students, including preventive care, treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, immunizations, lab work and more. All of our services are confidential, and many of them are free.
Campus life
On campus, our students enjoy all the classic amenities of college life, from the wide-open green space of our University Mall to a cozy student lounge. The 48-acre grounds are an arboretum, with more than 800 trees and woody plants; our traditional red-brick buildings boast smart classrooms and up-to-date computer technology.
Sports facilities
Campus Recreation strives to enhance the experience of a diverse student body by encouraging an active, healthy and balanced lifestyle through engagement in our recreational facilities, programs and services.
Students can become involved in Campus Recreation through the use of the Tyrrell Fitness Center, a comprehensive weight room and fitness center. Students can also choose to engage with Campus Recreation through Intramural Sports and open gym programming.Student clubs
