History
In 1937, Ruth Kerr (among others) founded a school that in 1940 became a liberal arts college committed to the historic Christian faith. Wallace Emerson, the first president, envisioned an institution that rivaled the best colleges nationwide, and he set the standard for academic rigor and excellence that still applies.
Education
Westmont offers bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees in 26 liberal arts majors, 11 pre-professional programs, an elementary and secondary credential program, and up to 12 units for internships and practica.
Career
- t's where meaning meets major and mission meets marketplace. It's about understanding what makes you tick, what you're drawn to, and discovering how to use the things that God made you good at. It can start with a conversation at the "COVE" Career Center, your one-stop-shop for "Career Opportunities & Vocational Exploration."
- Internships are a great way to "test drive" a career. Students are encouraged to pursue internships during their sophomore through senior years. Many internships can be completed for academic credit including summer internships.
- Each year we bring dozens of employers onto campus. It's a great chance for you to ask questions and explore careers and companies.

Expedition in Computer science
•Enthusiasm for diverse computer science courses like algorithms, AI, and cybersecurity. •Engaging professors who inspired learning. •Enjoyment of hands-on coding projects and practical assignments. •Participation in computer science-related extracurricular activities. And improvement •Challenges with grasping advanced topics. •Need for additional support resources like tutoring. •Desire for more interdisciplinary approaches and practical experiences. To summarize, my study experience in computer science was enriching and inspiring. I enjoyed diverse courses, engaging professors, hands-on projects, and extracurricular activities. However, challenges with advanced topics and a need for more support resources were noted. Overall, it was a rewarding journey with room for improvement.
Student services
The Campus Life Office cultivates the willingness and ability for Westmont students to lead and learn in all areas of life. It is a hub of opportunity for students. From student beginnings in new student Orientation, to club and ministry participation, to year-long leadership roles, students take advantage of extending their growth in venues beyond the classroom.
Housing services
One of our goals for Orientation is that you will make a successful transition into college life and begin to feel known and cared for in the Westmont Community. Transitioning well takes time and preparation.
Faculty and staff at Westmont are known for their deep care for students. They are here not only to challenge and grow up academically, but also to nurture you and develop you socially, emotionally, professionally, and spiritually.
Library services
The Roger John Voskuyl Library holds more than 150,000 books, music scores, and media, and subscribes to over 100 databases and 30,000 online and print journals. The library is named after the third president of Westmont College and was built in 1968. Remodeled in 2010, the library features a learning commons, group study rooms, popular treadmill walking stations.
ICT services
Westmont was the first school in the nation to transition all wireless access to 802.11n. We implemented over 290 wireless access points across campus to provide nearly 100% coverage. In addition, wireless is also available at our off-campus apartments in Santa Barbara and at our urban center in San Francisco. Sign-on is simple, secure and reliable.
Medical services
The Health Center is committed to being on mission with Christ in our participation as health care providers in the movement of God's love towards people. We accomplish this by maintaining a staff with years of experience and training in the area of college health. As such, we are able to provide the excellent health care that is focused in caring for college students.
Campus life
The campus has five on-campus dorms. The two freshman dorms are Page and Clark which are located at the upper corners of campus. Armington is at the lowest point on campus, and is usually the sophomore dorm. Emerson (formerly known as New Dorm and Everest), is at the top of campus and has ocean views in many of its rooms. Van Kampen, the most popular dorm for upper-classmen, is located in the center of the campus and was recently renovated and modernized in the summer of 2006. Some upper classmen students live in the Ocean View Apartments, a college-owned apartment building on the east side of Santa Barbara.
Sports facilities
You can:
- Swim in a heated pool (80 degrees F).
- Dive from a one-meter diving board.
- Use the provided kick boards and pull buoys during workouts.
- Use indoor showers, lockers, and dressing rooms.
- Relax on chaise lounges on the pool deck.

As you consider forming a new club or renewing an existing one, consider thoughtfully your connection to a wider community of Westmont alumni, parents, faculty, staff, trustees and friends. Many of these members of the greater Westmont community nurture life-long commitments to the college and to its mission and traditions.
