History
Established by Dr. Henry H.L. Hu and Dr. Chung Chi Yung in 1971, Shue Yan College was formally registered as a tertiary education institution in 1976. On 19 December 2006, Shue Yan College became the first private university in Hong Kong after it was renamed Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) by order of the Chief Executive in Council.
Education
HKSYU currently offers 15 undergraduate and 21 postgraduate programmes with a vision to cultivate future leaders for society and a commitment to top-quality research activities. Of its postgraduate programmes, the University started to offer 6 Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and 6 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes .
Research
There are 13 research centres at the University which specialize in areas from economics, psychology, communications, contemporary society, neuroscience, evidence-based practice, sustainable real estate, to business and social development. The University maintains close contact with research centres locally and abroad to facilitate academic exchange. It has also frequently published research reports in the past six years which have contributed to academia.

Student services
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) aims to provide an open, encouraging, with a supportive learning environment, in order to initiate students a healthy, well-balanced life. OSA provides a variety of services to students so that they can fully develop their potential, enjoy their campus life and complete their 4-year tertiary study successfully.
Housing services
Student residence means not only an on-campus living environment that allows students to pursue academic success, but also a community-living environment for student ’s skills advancement and personal development. Hong Kong Shue Yan University strives to create a healthy, pleasant and harmony living-learning environment for the residents.
Library services
The Hong Kong Shue Yan University Library Complex building is multi-functional and has 19 storeys. It includes seminar rooms, conference rooms, research centres, a podium, as well as a parking lot and accommodation facilities for overseas scholars.
ICT services
Computing Services Centre is a service department of Hong Kong Shue Yan University with responsibility for academic and administrative computing. Working in partnership with the faculties, staff and students, we provide current computing technologies, IT infrastructure and IT services to facilitate and support teaching, learning, research and administration.
Campus life
Undergraduate Residence Halls mainly consist of shared rooms (2-person, 3-person & 4-person), with 2-person room and 3-person room being the majority. Hall application and residence fees are based on a semester basis. A limited number of single rooms are also available. Each room is equipped with a standard set of furniture and air conditioning.
Sports facilities
The Physical Education Section plans and organises sports activities for students. We believe that sports are not only essential to physical health but also necessary for mental health and character development. Therefore, the Physical Education Section provides a platform for students to demonstrate their talents, develop sportsmanship and to build friendships

Student clubs
HKSYU students enjoy a rich and fruitful student life. There are currently ten university societies, 16 interest groups (including drama, music and sound production) and 16 sports teams.
HKSYU’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). HKSYU’s programmes are widely recognised by local and overseas institutions. Our graduates are also eagerly sought after by employers.
