History
DePauw University was founded in 1837 by the Methodist Church. Originally called Indiana Asbury University in honor of Francis Asbury, the first American bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the school was envisioned by its founders to be an ecumenical institution of national stature that would be “conducted on the most liberal principles, accessible to all religious denominations.
Education
- Develop the leadership skills, critical thinking and experience necessary to lead in today’s world. Our brilliant faculty and co-curricular liberal arts approach make this transformation possible.
- DePauw University offer a wide variety of majors and minors in different fields.
Research
- From year one at DePauw, students are encouraged to partner with faculty and peers to put ideas and theory into practice. While working in a science lab is often the stereotypical example of research, DePauw students also routinely conduct research across the humanities and social sciences. Here, students don't wait behind graduate students or Ph.D. candidates for opportunities.
- Diverse opportunities on and off-campus are available throughout the school year and summers. Some students join Honor Scholar and Fellows Programs with built-in research components, but opportunities are available to every student regardless of program affiliation, major or class.

Great connections
I think the university is well equipped for the liberal arts and high level entrepreneurship and diverse learning. It also has a wide range of groups and clubs that allow for students to express themselves and be socially engaged.
So much theory, not enough practice.
Being a small, liberal arts college, DePauw allowed me to grow in various fields before choosing the field that I was most passionate about. This experience allowed me to explore and gain insight on several subjects that I would not have otherwise gained, be it community service, technical fields like math, fields of arts such as dance and sculpture, fields of religion, and sciences. I gained a well-rounded educational as well as personal growth while studying here. However, because of the small-town nature of the campus, I was sometimes limited in terms of getting the real-world experience when it came to applying my theoretical knowledge into practice. Furthermore, switching from an in-person college experience to a completely virtual experience after the surge of COVID-19 limited the expansion of my college experience and professional growth in a significant manner.
