History
Founded by Swedish Lutheran settlers in Chicago in 1860, Augustana has grown from a small school educating Swedish immigrants into a selective college of the liberal arts and sciences. The college honors its roots and its affiliation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. At the same time, Augustana’s rich liberal arts environment is enhanced by diversity.

No matter the field, the activity provides an original contribution to the field in a way that can be shared with others.

- Conducting bibliographical, text-based research to understand human expression across languages, times, faiths or cultures

Student services
The Office of Student Life and Leadership (OSL) hosts events and activities from different cultures, the arts, entertainment, educational programming and more.
Housing services
First-year and sophomore students live in residence halls; juniors may choose transitional living areas (apartment-style housing on campus); seniors live on campus or in the neighborhood.
Library services
- Thomas Tredway Library serves Augustana College by making learning the touchstone of all library activities and decisions.
- Our College build a vibrant collection that supports undergraduate learning, research, and intellectual curiosity.
ICT services
- Augustana Copy Center
Located on the ground floor of Sorensen Hall, the Copy Center offers students, faculty and staff a variety of printing and copying services, from simple flyers to full-color bound books.
- ITS offers diagnosis and repair of spyware and virus problems for a small fee.
Medical services
The Augustana Convenient Care Powered by Genesis Health System clinic is open on campus in Baldur House, 3410 9 1/2 Ave., behind the Gerber Center and next to Casa Latina.Augustana students and employees can schedule a time to go to the clinic to see an advanced practice provider.
Student Life
Campus life
The 115-acre wooded campus is part of the Quad-Cities (population 400,000), and about 165 miles west of Chicago. Augustana is a residential campus.
Sports facilities
The Pepsico Center houses intramural sports and student recreation. It has 40,000 square feet of gym floor and a six-lane, 200-meter track.
The center also houses:
- Three regulation basketball courts (one also accommodates tennis)
- Two racquetball courts
- Four volleyball courts
- Lounge and locker rooms
- 1,600-square-foot weight room
- Cardiovascular equipment
- Training room
Student clubs
More than 150 student organizations, interest groups, club sports, ensembles, honor societies, fraternities and sororities, and other groups are based on campus. If you don't find one to spark your interest, it's easy to start a new one.
