Earlham has its roots in the Great Migration of Quakers from the eastern United States, especially from North Carolina, in the first half of the nineteenth century. A peculiarly Quaker combination of idealism and practicality drew them to the Northwest Territory. As Friends, those who came out of the South had found themselves increasingly uneasy living in a slave society.

The teaching faculty at Earlham are outstanding, and I have greatly enjoyed getting to work with them. I wish the administration was more receptive to student feedback.
Great school. The community vibes here were strong due to its small, tight-knit student population. Moreover, the teachers challenged me intellectually in ways that I could not have imagined. I owe much of who I am post-graduation to Earlham College.
