History
Earlham has its roots in the Great Migration of Quakers from the eastern United States, especially from North Carolina, in the first half of the nineteenth century. A peculiarly Quaker combination of idealism and practicality drew them to the Northwest Territory. As Friends, those who came out of the South had found themselves increasingly uneasy living in a slave society.

My Transformative Experience at Earlham College
Majoring in Biochemistry at Earlham College has been an incredibly rewarding journey. As someone aspiring to pursue medicine, I appreciated that my major covered all the necessary pre-med prerequisites while also offering a rigorous and engaging curriculum. The faculty played a crucial role in my academic and professional development—they are not only knowledgeable but also deeply invested in student success. Their guidance and support have been instrumental in helping me reach my goals. One of the standout aspects of my experience was the research opportunities available at Earlham. I had the chance to conduct research on campus, an opportunity that might not have been as accessible at larger institutions. Additionally, Earlham provided funded opportunities to engage in research elsewhere, expanding my learning beyond the classroom. This hands-on experience has been invaluable in strengthening my scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills. Beyond academics, Earlham also fostered my passion for medicine through extensive volunteer and shadowing opportunities at local hospitals and healthcare facilities. These experiences have allowed me to apply my learning in real-world settings, solidifying my commitment to a medical career. Even though it is hard for international students to get into medical schools in the U.S., the Center for Global Health provides a wealth of resources and guidance to ensure that international students have the best possible chance of becoming competitive applicants. Overall, Earlham College has provided me with a well-rounded education, exceptional mentorship, and opportunities that have shaped my path toward medicine. I am grateful for the experiences and the community that has supported my growth every step of the way.
