Founded in 1887 before Los Angeles had its first paved street, saw its first automobile, or made its first movie Occidental is L.A.’s first and only liberal arts college.
Our only building burned down in 1896, we moved four times in less than 30 years, and at times barely managed to pay our bills. Oxy has always been an institution that recruited talent regardless of a student’s background.

The Registrar’s Office handles most academic issues for students and faculty such as transcripts, registration and grade processing.
Students may request accommodations at any time while enrolled at Occidental College. However, it is recommended that students register for accommodations prior to, or within the first 2 weeks of the semester commencing. All requests will be evaluated by the Disability Services Office. Accommodations and services are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Associated Students of Occidental College (ASOC) is for the students! Every student paying student fees is a member of the ASOC. ASOC student government is comprised of two elected sections (Senate and Honor Board), and 2 appointed sections (Renewable Energy and Sustainability Fund and Diversity & Equity Board). Additionally, ASOC funds various Student Services that add to student’s experience at Oxy by providing resources and employment.
Oxy is proud to be a member institution in the Presidents' Alliance for Excellence in Student Learning and Accountability. We are also an active participant in the Degree Qualifications Profile project through the partnership between the Lumina Foundation and WASC. We have presented at various conferences and participate in national conversations of higher education assessment.
