De La Salle University was established in 1911 by the Catholic teaching congregation Brothers of the Christian Schools (FSC, from the Latin: Fratres Scholarum Christianarum). The congregation was founded in 1680 as a community of consecrated laymen by St. Jean-Baptiste de La Salle to conduct, “together and by association,” schools that he established first in the northern French city of Rheims.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has granted autonomous status to De La Salle University (DLSU) for a period of five (5) years from April 1, 2016 to May 31, 2021 (per CHED Memorandum Order 20, series 2016). DLSU is one of only three private higher education institutions (HEIs) to be given this recognition for five years. Furthermore, the CHED named fourteen academic programs of DLSU as Centers of Excellence (COEs) and five academic programs as Centers of Development (CODs).

De lasalle's main strength in teaching their students is due to the powerful and well choosen professors that are also mostly from the university itself. With the faculty of the university being also a graduate of the same university, the professors can highly relate and emphatize with the student community.
Average at best. There are really good professors and there are ineffective ones with the latter having greater number. I really like it when professors encourage participation and know how to get the class engaged and interested. It's also the things that my university has to improve on.
The university is known for its green environment. The curriculum of every course has a Religious education. Some facilities lack maintenance especially the laboratories.
