The University was established on 26 October 1939, the date it received both its canonical erection and civil recognition by the Italian State. Unusually for that time, it was established by a woman, Luigia Tincani, together with Cardinal Giuseppe Pizzardo, and has enjoyed the protection and support of the Holy See from the very start.
University teaching is distributed across three departments: Law, Economics, Politics and Modern languages - Rome campus; Law - Palermo campus; Social Sciences - Communication, Education and Psychology. With around 400 internationally recognised tutors, the University provides both qualified education for young people and professional development programs for mature students.
Scientific research at LUMSA is embedded in the teaching program, for the benefit of the individual and the community. The University promotes and supports basic and interdisciplinary research, which is essential for the welfare of contemporary society.

As a current MBBS student at the University of Lusaka, my experience so far has been a mix of growth, challenge, and valuable learning. The programme is academically demanding but provides a strong foundation in both theory and clinical application. The initial BSc in Medical Sciences phase helped ease us into the core medical curriculum, making the transition into more advanced MBBS studies smoother. What I appreciate most about UNILUS is the dedication of some lecturers, especially in the pre-clinical years. They were approachable, thorough in their explanations, and genuinely interested in student success. Certain classes stood out for their practical relevance, and the integration of case-based learning has helped sharpen my critical thinking. On the downside, some administrative delays and communication gaps, especially around scheduling and exam updates can be frustrating. That said, I would recommend UNILUS to future students who are self-motivated and looking for a programme that balances academic flexibility with a structured curriculum. With continued improvements, especially in administration and clinical integration, the MBBS programme has great potential.

I can't comment on the campus because I have never been there, as I have attended online from home. I have been disappointed by academic staff (the course is in English but their level of English is below standard) and by lack of flexibility (attending students are forced to do projects my the end of the semester all at oncem Since there are many subject, the load of work is excessive as students cannot organize their studies as they see best).

LUMSA makes it easy to study in Italy, providing assistance through a dedicated Welcome Office that support students with information about academic courses and enrollment procedures for international students and provides also support to international Visiting Professors.
There is a new counter service: LUMSA Accommodation Service, an innovative support offered by the LUMSA to its students who do not reside in Rome in the search and selection of suitable housing solutions or of a temporary accommodation of another kind.
The student is given complete assistance from the choice of the accommodation to the definition of the tenancy agreement. LUMSA Accommodation Service is completely free.

There are over 150,000 volumes, 410 current journals relating to social sciences, law, economics and politics, communication and education sciences, and 22 multidisciplinary databases. There's also a collection of psychological tests and a dedicated bioethics section.
All students enrolled at the Lumsa University are covered by an accident insurance policy. The Insurance office deals with all issues related to insurance policies.
At the Piazza Adriana residence there are 17 double rooms and 6 single rooms. The building is air-conditioned and accommodates a total of 40. Each room has a network point and wifi will soon be available throughout the residence. There is a spacious communal area including TV room, music room, lounge and gym.
The Piazza delle Vaschette residence has 11 rooms and accommodates a total of 25, with concierge service. All rooms have an ensuite shower room and air conditioning. There is also a large kitchen for the use of residents. On the third floor there is a large terrace with gazebo and tables and chairs for studying or relaxing.
