Berklee was founded by Lawrence Berk, a veteran arranger and MIT-trained engineer, who wanted to teach contemporary music and provide practical career preparation for the working musician. His idea caught fire, and the small teaching studio grew into a sizable school, then college, in just over two decades.
Berklee offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs; summer and international college and pre-college programs; and online degrees, certificates, and individual online courses. All courses are taught by our faculty of talented and experienced professionals.
The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment provides guidance and support for every area of Berklee to engage in continuous, comprehensive research and self-evaluation, gathering the information required for data-driven decision-making, policy development, and strategic planning.
