History
Berklee was founded by Lawrence Berk, a veteran arranger and MIT-trained engineer, who wanted to teach contemporary music and provide practical career preparation for the working musician. His idea caught fire, and the small teaching studio grew into a sizable school, then college, in just over two decades.
Education
Berklee offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs; summer and international college and pre-college programs; and online degrees, certificates, and individual online courses. All courses are taught by our faculty of talented and experienced professionals.
Research
The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment provides guidance and support for every area of Berklee to engage in continuous, comprehensive research and self-evaluation, gathering the information required for data-driven decision-making, policy development, and strategic planning.

Campus life
As we continue our remote fall semester, the Campus Life team has been working to identify ways to get you involved and keep you engaged with you while you are remote. While we can't offer movie tickets, discounted memberships, MBTA passes, or many of our traditional services, our current offerings include:
- remote events and programs;
- continuing to support clubs from afar;
- working with the Student Government Association (SGA) to make sure the student voice is still represented within the campus community;
- increased social media activity to encourage staying in touch; and
- remote engagement opportunities such as student crews, trivia, watch parties, contests, and more.
Sports facilities
If you have a previous membership (after signing up online):
- If you lack a Northeastern ID Card (Husky Card) issued after September 1, 2017, go to Husky Card Services at 4 Speare Place (adjacent to the Marino Center on Huntington Avenue) to obtain a new Husky Card, which you can use to enter the gym. The membership will be valid starting September 1, 2017.
- After September 1, 2017, allow one business day to obtain the Husky Card and have it activated for gym access.
Student clubs
Professional associations, organizations, and societies often hold field-specific conferences, meetings, and workshops that may present networking opportunities with those working in your areas of interest. We encourage you to use the list of associations and organizations below, but do not be limited by it as this is merely a small fraction of the groups that may be of interest to you.
Institutional Research and Assessment maintains Berklee's accreditation under the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Comprehensive reports must be submitted on a regular basis to maintain accreditation as well as to approve changes to Berklee's offerings (i.e., the merger with Boston Conservatory, degree addition).
