Throughout its history, the University of Wisconsin - Superior has committed to improving the lives and livelihoods of people in northwestern Wisconsin and beyond by seeking knowledge and spreading it to all who may benefit.



In 1893, the Wisconsin legislature established a "normal school" in Superior to train school teachers. The Superior Normal School, which evolved into the University of Wisconsin - Superior, welcomed its first students in 1896. By providing trained, well-educated teachers, the institution helped the small towns and rural areas of the region to grow and prosper.


The University offers:

  • Award associate and baccalaureate degrees in selected fields in education, arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences, business, and pre-professional programs 
  • Offer graduate programs in areas associated with its undergraduate emphases and strengths.
  • Extend its undergraduate and graduate resources beyond the boundaries of the campus through alternative delivery of programs.


The Grants and Research Office advances funded research, scholarship, and creative endeavors for faculty and staff.  It serves as a resource to find extramural funding opportunities and builds capacities of faculty and staff to pursue extramural funding through technical assistance, training, and strategic proposal review.


UW-Superior Career Services, in partnership with faculty, staff and employers, provides students and alumni with opportunities and resources to identify career goals and develop life-long career management skills.

Housing services

Residential living communities allow students to live on campus with other students who share their same interests and goals. Interest areas include Academics, Adventure, Creative Arts and Recreation and Wellness.

Library services

The Jim Dan Hill Library supports the University of Wisconsin-Superior liberal arts mission by fostering an engaging environment for our diverse community of learners. The library provides quality academic services and resources for research, teaching, career and professional development, and scholarly pursuits

ICT services

The Help Desk is the place to contact when you have questions about using technology at the university. Our staff can answer questions and provide access to university technology services, from computers to classroom technology to online systems.

Medical services

The mission of Student Health and Counseling Services is to support student well-being by providing health education, prevention, promotion and treatment, ultimately influencing academic achievement and connectedness with campus and community.

Campus life

The University of Wisconsin-Superior has served as a cornerstone in the City of Superior since 1893. While our status in the community remains the same, there has been plenty of big changes since then – from our liberal arts initiatives to our new, beautiful buildings on campus. The one thing that hasn’t changed is our welcoming atmosphere. We’re proud to foster intellectual growth and career preparation within a liberal arts tradition that emphasizes individual attention and embodies respect for diverse cultures and multiple voices through our values.

Sports facilities

UW-Superior Fitness programs provide information and training for the campus community and MWC members interested in maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.

Group fitness classes are a popular and fun way to BEE Active. Individuals that are interested may pick up schedules and class descriptions at the MWC Welcome Desk.

Personal Trainers are available to students and MWC members who are seeking one-on-one motivation, an orientation to our equipment, a fitness assessment or a personalized individualized program with your goals in mind.
