On March 4th, 1840 the Virginia Legislature granted a charter for “a Seminary of learning for the instruction of youth in the various branches of science and literature, the useful arts and the learned and foreign languages, which shall be called and known by the name of Richmond College.”  This “Seminary of learning” grew out of an actual seminary;

Library services

In 1955, the Frederic William Boatwright Memorial Library was officially dedicated and opened on the University of Richmond campus. It serves as a memorial and testimony to Boatwright's sixty-eight years of service to the institution as student, professor, president, and chancellor.

ICT services

The University of Richmond provides several computer configuration options for faculty and staff members. Whether users prefer a Mac or PC, or a desktop or laptop, we can meet those needs provided the choice is consistent with the users position and department requirements. Each year, one third of the campus computers are replaced as part of our asset management life cycle. In addition to the primary computer that a user receives, a secondary laptop or desktop may be requested depending on the users need for the computer and the availability. 

Medical services

Health and Well-being supports a holistic approach to the health and wellness of students, faculty, staff, and members. We frequently partner with other departments throughout campus to offer programming, as well as custom health education services.

Student Life

Campus life

Located six miles west of downtown Richmond, Va., the University of Richmond sits on a 350-acre wooded campus easily accessible by car from I-95 from the north or south, and I-64 from the east or west. Richmond International Airport is approximately 20 miles from campus, and two Amtrak train stations are minutes away.

Sports facilities

The University of Richmond sport club program provides the students to lead their sport program and enjoy recreation, instruction, and competition in a range of activities. Sport clubs give students the chance to play in non-varsity sports while developing skills in administration, organization, and fundraising. The Richmond program has expanded from four clubs just 20 years ago to 30 active clubs today. 

Student clubs

Beyond the University of Richmond campus, Jepson's faculty contributes to making leadership studies a priority in higher education worldwide. Faculty members organize national conferences, hold leadership roles in scholarly associations such as the International Leadership Association (ILA), and lecture around the world. They consult on topics related to leadership at colleges and universities, businesses, and government agencies both in the U.S. and overseas.Other associations include:

In addition to assessment and planning review, Institutional Effectiveness oversees the University's accreditation. Accreditation of individual schools or programs is handled within those areas.

SACSCOC Reaffirmation of Accreditation

The University of Richmond's accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) was reaffirmed in December 2008.
