History
While officially found in 1952, initially known as the Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology, our university can trace its roots back to the 1890s when the first mining and metallurgy disciplines in the modern history of China were founded by the Beiyang Western Academy.

The Enriching Experience of Communication Engineer
Studying and living in the Communication Engineering major at the University of Science and Technology Beijing is an enriching and distinctive experience. Firstly, the academic atmosphere is intense. The university has an outstanding team of teachers who have profound attainments in the field of communication. Their teaching is clear and inspiring, stimulating students' thirst for knowledge. The curriculum is comprehensive and forward-looking, covering core courses such as Principles of Communication, Signal Processing, Electromagnetic Fields and Waves, laying a solid professional foundation for students. In terms of practice, the university provides abundant experimental equipment and practical opportunities. Students can operate by themselves, deeply understand the theoretical knowledge in communication engineering, and enhance their practical operation ability. For instance, participating in experiments like the construction and debugging of communication systems allows us to directly feel the charm of communication technology. Campus life is also colorful. Students of Communication Engineering actively participate in various academic competitions and scientific research projects. They communicate with each other and make progress together. Club activities are diverse, such as technology clubs, art clubs, etc., meeting the needs of different interests and hobbies. Moreover, the university library has rich resources, providing sufficient support for students' independent learning and research. It is a great enjoyment to consult materials and think deeply in a quiet and comfortable environment during the learning process. In conclusion, life in the Communication Engineering major at the University of Science and Technology Beijing is fulfilling and meaningful. Decent Electrical Engineering Experience
My Electrical Engineering program was overall a decent experience. I liked the practical labs and the core technical courses. Some areas, like course organization and lab equipment, could be improved, but the program helped me build a solid foundation.

Student services
The International Student Center(ISC) provides international students with professionalized service for life and study matters at USTB including visas, insurance, scholarships, study support, counseling services, alumni, accommodation, regulations and policies. ISC aims to make overall plans for international students education in USTB, promote the education of international students, and managing routine affair for international students.
Housing services
- University Science and Technology Beijing offers ready-made accommodation and leisure facilitates, helping you to find your feet and settle quickly into studies and your social life.
- You will be located in a double room. Rooms are equipped with internet, telephone, television, air-condition, independent bathroom, 24 hours hot water.
Medical services
- The School Hospital is located by the 2nd south door, it provides outpatient services. Students need to carry their student card and passport to receive treatment. Emergency telephone is 62332909.
- Students can also go to Peking University Third Hospital and they need to go with their passports in order to receive treatment.
Campus life
There are two canteens in USTB: Wanxiu canteen and Hongbo canteen, they provide food daily. Muslim meals are on the 3rd floor of Hongbo canteen. Students need to use the campus card. Campus card is issued by the International Students Center when student registered. Each student is given one card.
Sports facilities
The gymnasium is located on the east of the campus, which was the 2008 Beijing Olympic judo and Taekwondo competition venues, later reconstructed for students. The gymnasium has table tennis, badminton games, indoor basketball court, swimming pool, gym, etc. Students need to pay in order to use the gym facilities.Basketball court, football field, volleyball court, rock climbing field and the sports field are located in the center of the campus. These are available to all students for free.
