College of Education

Although the College of Education received International Recognition in Teacher Education in January 2011, its members are continually seeking to improve the quality of the College’s efforts. Further accreditation using the latest standards in teacher education is the next target on the horizon.

In addition, as part of its new strategic plan, the College of Education —along with its partners, the Supreme Educational Council and Qatar’s Independent Schools—will develop new academic programs for teachers and educational leaders to meet society’s needs. It will enhance educational research activity in the country by increasing the number of research projects supported by the Qatar National Research Fund and conducted in partnership with academics from prestigious universities around the world. And the College will expand the professional development programs that are offered to teachers and educational leaders through its National Center for Educator Development and by the creation of new outreach programs.

The Educational Research Unit is committed to achieving research excellence and building capacity by providing students and faculty with a supportive environment for scholarship and developing effective collaborative partnerships in research nationally and internationally. The unit works towards addressing important educational issues and contributes to achieving the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the country's quest to establish a knowledge-based economy of world-class quality.

The following are the main objectives of the unit:

• Engage in high quality research, scholarly activities, knowledge transfer, training and consultancy.

• Contribute towards the development of educational policies through the research outputs produced by faculty and students.

• Provide opportunities for members of the College of Education to reach the highest possible levels of achievement in their field.

• Raise the profile of the College of Education as an important unit for educational research and teacher education.

• Contribute to the development of a vibrant research culture at QU and support the University’s strategy to become a research university.

• Support the University’s mission of providing service and education to the local community and to the wider society.

• Enhance the reputation of the University and College nationally and internationally.
