Founded in 1888, Blackburn College’s purpose was the provision of technical, employment-focussed education for the people of Blackburn and the surrounding area.

As a student at University Centre at Blackburn College you are automatically a member of our Students’ Union.This means that you are entitled to benefit from all that we offer - and we like to think that we offer quite a lot! Our Students Union office is a hive of activity and we have a dedicated Student Events and Communication Officer who is able to support events and activities you wish to hold or get involved in. Although our Students’ Union is small we try to cater for everyone. We have been working closely with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to put on a range of events around Blackburn – these have included live bands, gigs, street parties and club nights at a range of venues.There’s also a range of clubs and societies you can get involved in. This includes our award-winning football team who are the current champions of the British University and Colleges Sports (BUCS) league.Of course, loads of activities happen to help you settle into life in Higher Education too. Our Freshers’ Fair gets bigger and better every year and there are always loads of stalls to check out. Before you start at University Centre at Blackburn College you’ll be sent a Fresher’s Guide which will be your first point of call to find out about all the activities that will take place in those all important first few weeks.When it comes to evening entertainment there’s plenty going on in and around Blackburn. A stone’s throw from the College is King George’s Hall. The venue regularly plays host to gigs and comedy acts. Recent acts have included Rob Brydon, Jason Manford and as well as Inbetweeners star Simon Bird’s own comedy gameshow.
