Moscow Campus - Faculty of Social Sciences

The Faculty of Social Sciences is one of the most multidisciplinary faculties in the HSE. It is the product of uniting the faculties of sociology, applied political science, psychology and public administration, which are now schools, and a series of laboratories, research centers and institutes.

The Faculty’s educational mission is to help a student become a researcher and a professional capable of rational critical thinking, reflection, and continuing independent creative, personal and professional growth.

Educational programmes at the HSE Faculty of Social Sciences are innovative in featuring a big share of project and practical courses, individual educational tracks for students, a wide range of extracurricular practices (summer and winter schools, research and study groups and laboratories etc.), close and intensive contacts with key employers through a system of joint departments and internships, to build academic tracks for students on all levels of education, from undergraduate to doctoral.


  • We train researchers, analysts and practitioners of sociology, political science, psychology and management, and specialists in education, demographics, public policy and civil society. 
  • The Faculty of Social Sciences brings together leading specialists in sociology, political science, psychology, public administration, education, public policy, network analysis and other fields. 
  • The faculty includes a number of institutes, laboratories and centres engaged in both traditional social science and relatively new and developing areas such as neuroeconomics, cognitive neuroscience and social neuroscience.


The faculty’s educational programmes combine depth of study with a focus on practical application. Our international partners include the Paris Institute of Political Studies, the Toulouse Institute of Political Studies and the Paris West University Nanterre de la Défense (France), the University of Jena and the University of Cologne (Germany), the University of Helsinki (Finland),  the University of Bologna and the University of Padua (Italy), George Mason University and New York State University (USA) and Fudan University (China).
