History
Ural Federal University is one of the oldest higher educational institutions in the Ural region. It was founded in Ekaterinburg in 1920 by the decree of Vladimir Lenin, the head of the Soviet Government. Initially it was called Ural University.
Education
Ural Federal University (UrFU) is one of the largest higher educational institutions in Russia bringing together fundamental education and innovative approach towards the challenges of modern times.

Research
Our specialists implement a whole range of applied research projects collaborating with their partners from Germany, USA, South Korea etc.
The University is also developing ties and undertaking collaborative research through inviting foreign professors to Ekaterinburg: e.g., since 2012 Dr Jean Jouzel (France), co-laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize, has been the head of the UrFU Climate Change Laboratory. From 2013 the University has launched a large-scale project "Returning to Europe: Russian elites and European innovations, norms and models (XVIII - early XXth centuries)" under the guidance of a renowned French researcher, Dr Marie-Pierre Rey.
Career
UrFU Center for Career and Employers Relations was established in 2004. The main goal of the center is to assist students and graduates in finding employment.
One of the main indicators of graduates’ employability is the percentage of graduates who find employment after a year from graduation. This indicator for Ural Federal University is about 90%; almost 80% of graduates work in their degree field.

University Ranking
Student services
Students' Union is the core body of students’ self-government at Ural Federal University; more than 50% of the students are members of Students’ Union. The main goals of the Union are to protect student’s rights, to improve of education quality, to give students possibilities of project implementation and creative abilities development, to unite students for to solve university self-governmental problems. There are 22 commissions in the structure of Students’ Union. Union Section functions in the institutes. In 2004 Students’ Union became a laureate of All-Russian Contest of Self-Governmental Bodies of Russian Universities.
Housing services
International students can choose to stay on-campus in one of UrFU dormitories or rent an apartment or room off-campus. In case they opt for the second variant, they can contact UrFU Student Union , and they will help them in the search for a home. The accommodation fee is approximately 1200 rubles a month. Library services
A place at the dormitory is booked by UrFU Center for International Student Mobility and Recruitment after the applicant has bought a ticket to Ekaterinburg and informed UrFU Center for International Student Mobility and Recruitment!
Medical services
All foreign citizens are required to have a medical insurance certificate on the territory of Russia. The certificate can be bought in any insurance company in Ekaterinburg or your home country (specifying " valid on the territory of the Russian Federation").
Sports facilities
UrFU sport facilities include winter stadiums, 11 specialized sports halls, two ski resorts, ice skating rink and 14 athletic fields on the territory of the campus. New sports complex was opened in 2007 and in 2011 the construction of University swimming-pool was finished.
