Karlsruher Institut für Technologie About

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, briefly referred to as KIT, was established by the merger of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH and the Universität Karlsruhe (TH) on October 01, 2009. KIT combines the tasks of a university of the state of Baden-Württemberg with those of a research center of the Helmholtz Association in the areas of research, teaching, and innovation.

History

50 years after the foundation of Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe and 181 years after the foundation of Universität Karlsruhe, both institutions were successful in the Excellence Initiative of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal States 2006. Our concept for the future envisaged the unique merger of both institutions into Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). .

Education

Program-oriented research of the Divisions is organized in Helmholtz programmes. The KIT Departments are responsible for university education. At the KIT Centers, scientists are working on division-overlapping research and innovation topics. In this way, interdisciplinary cooperation is supported at the KIT. The KIT Service Units render efficient services to support the actors in research, education, and innovation in fulfilling their key tasks. The KIT Service Units support both the staff and the organization and conceive development strategies in both areas.

Research

KIT research will primarily be based on the capacities and knowledge of the scientists, who are members of the over 140 Institutes of KIT. They are supported by an excellent and worldwide unique scientific infrastructure. In KIT these scientists work in fields of competence depending on their expert know-how. Related fields of competence are bundled in areas of competence. Fields of Competence and Areas of Competence make up the Competence Portfolio of KIT.

It is dynamic and develops and takes up new scientific topics. While the Competence Portfolio is the basis of KIT research, KIT centers and KIT focuses are organizational units that bundle research projects.

Career

KIT wants to actively promote dual careers and support partners of new employees in continuing their professional careers. Please do not hesitate to make use of our individual counselling interviews that will help you find adequate approaches and solutions and identify potential employers in the region. We assist you in establishing first contacts to conceivable employers and support you as you go through applications.
