History
Established in 1920, shortly after the union of Romanian territories, in a European context marked by the redefinition of states and by the aftermath of World War I, the Polytechnic School in Timisoara - as was originally called - was the answer to one of the requirements of the Romanian society of the time, namely the formation of engineers.
Education
The didactic activity of Politehnica University Timisoara is organized in line with the Bologna paradigm; the study programs correspond to three cycles, BACHELOR, MASTER and DOCTORAL STUDIES. Interested in responding to the labor market demands and to the need for long-life training and development required by the complex challenges of the modern society, Politehnica University Timisoara organizes POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS, whose main objective is to update / develop / improve numerous academic qualifications.
Research
Politehnica University Timisoara has an infrastructure which ensures best conditions for teaching and research. The excellent spaces and equipment which the university offers are a consequence of the last decade’s modernization and investing concerns.

University Ranking
Housing services
Student residences with twin rooms. Each level features two common bathrooms, a kitchen and a laundry room. Each student residence has a study hall. Room facilities: Internet, cable TV, furniture purchased in 2007, sink and refrigerator. Student residences are protected by video surveillance systems.
Library services
The library provides users with access to the resources and documentary services needed for the education and research process, using specific modern means, for the purpose of professional training and the completion of the human personality. At the beginning of the twentieth century, there was an increasing need for a university institution with a technical profile in the western part of Romania.
Medical services
The Student Polyclinic (“Policlinica studenteasca”) is located in the Student Campus, on Aleea Studentilor nr. 1, and provides free of charge medical checks and treatments in the following areas: general medicine, internal medicine and echography, dermatology, family planning, gynaecology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology.
Campus life
The university`s campus includes 16 student hostels offering approximately 6500 beds, a student cafeteria, a student medical center and two modern sports centers.
Sports facilities
All international students have access to the sports facilities of Politehnica University of Timisoara in the same conditions as local students.There are two sports centers:
- Sports Center 1 (fitness hall, football field, running track, covered mini-football fields) located in the area between the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the Library and the 2MV student residence.
- Sports Center 2 (indoor and outdoor swimming pools with sauna and fitness equipment; basketball and volleyball courts; football fields; bitumen and tartan tennis fields; multipurpose buildings) located behind the Dan Paltinisanu Stadium on str. Podeanu.
