The Nutrition and Behaviour course at Bournemouth University is about the major factor that contributes towards preventable disease including obesity and many of the non-communicable diseases on both a national and global scale: diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. 

About

This is the first course of its kind in the UK to explore the role of behaviour in guiding diet and nutrition and the effects of diet and nutrition on shaping behaviour. It will provide a solid foundation in the physiology and biochemistry of nutrition, which is complemented by units focused on the role of nutrition in behaviour and cognition and the management of associated clinical conditions.

The course will improve the practical management skills of nutritionists and provide an important insight into contemporary developments in nutrition and behaviour for a range of healthcare professionals and graduates.

This Nutrition and Behaviour course at Bournemouth University encompasses the role of nutrition from preconception to old age and includes topics such as in-utero programming, infant feeding practices, the development of food likes and dislikes in children, food promotion, psychological factors contributing to the development of obesity including appetite and weight control, disordered eating behaviours, prevention of diet-related disease, and the role of diet in normal ageing and age-related conditions.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: Lower Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Lower Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • A Bachelors Honours degree with 2:2 in a required subject, or equivalent. Required subjects include; Clinical/life sciences, Nursing, Psychology, Nutrition.
  • If you lack the formal academic qualifications needed to enter a postgraduate or post-experience degree, there are several alternative routes to follow - some based on experience.
