
Overview
As a student at the Ecology and Evolution MSc programme from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam you'll study ecology from a plant, animal, fungal, bacterial and systems perspective. You’ll also explore ecological and evolutionary processes at a molecular level and on a regional and global scale. In addition, you’ll carry out field observations and experiments to identify evolutionary and/or ecosystem patterns and functions.
Key facts
The Master takes two years and is taught in English. In the first year you’ll study ecology and evolution, as well as undertake your first internship. In the second year you’ll choose one of the following specialisations:

General requirements
- Your previous education needs to be deemed equivalent to at least a Dutch academic Bachelor’s degree (wetenschappelijk onderwijs, WO) obtained at a research university (nominal duration 3 years). Please find more information about your admissibility with a non-Dutch degree here. We do not require a GRE or GMAT test score.
- A minimum of 12 ECTS in Ecology: understanding of ecosystems, the ecological processes that play a role within them and the interrelationship of those processes, behavioral ecology;
- A minimum of 12 ECTS in Evolution: origin and development of life, processes of speciation, relationship between and within taxa, building plans of the most important groups;
- A minimum of 12 ECTS in Genetics: origin and development of life, processes of speciation, relationship between and within taxa, building plans of the most important groups;
- A minimum of 12 ECTS in Statistics or Mathematics
