Overview
The Plant Health and Environment programme at the University of Bordeaux examines how plants respond to environmental stress, whether biotic, including pathogens and pests, or abiotic, including heat, drought and pollution.
Students study the mechanisms and strategies involved in interactions between plants and symbiotic and pathogenic microorganisms, plant responses and acclimatisation to abiotic factors, plant immunity, disease dynamics and sustainable protection strategies, including biological control, genetic selection and agroecology.
Throughout the programme, students use approaches from ecophysiology, molecular biology, genetics, ecology, omics and microbiology to understand plant-environment interactions at different scales. Students learn to analyse complex systems, conduct phytopathological diagnostics, develop responsible protection protocols and design innovative solutions for more resilient agriculture in response to climate and plant-health challenges.
The programme offers contact with research laboratories, biological-control and biotechnology companies, agricultural businesses and agroecology advisory organisations. Students can apply their knowledge through work-study opportunities or internships and gain professional experience before entering the employment market.
