Overview
BioSpace-Xpert at the University of Bordeaux trains specialists in technological and therapeutic innovations related to space exploration and living conditions in extreme environments.
The programme examines how humans, animals, plants and microbiota adapt to extreme environments. Areas of study include weightlessness, radiation, mental health in confinement and food production in closed environments, addressing challenges connected with future lunar and Martian missions.
Students acquire fundamental knowledge of the mechanisms and strategies through which living organisms adapt to extreme conditions. They also develop experimental and innovative approaches to life-support systems and associated countermeasures.
The programme draws on a multidisciplinary research ecosystem involving French research teams recognised in this field by the French National Centre for Space Studies, as well as laboratories, specialist organisations, agencies and industry partners.
The programme combines theoretical teaching with practical applications, experimental work and visits to research and experimentation sites. Teaching is delivered by experts from research laboratories, agencies and specialised organisations.
