Overview

The Non-Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) programme offered by University of East London is self-funded and is not eligible for government funding. You may wish to request sponsorship from your employer to support your course fees.

If you are not currently working towards QTS, or do not already hold QTS, you may be interested in one of the PGCE with QTS routes offered at UEL. These pathways are designed for applicants beginning their teaching journey who wish to work towards a PGCE and QTS simultaneously. There are several routes available, including the Primary with Early Years PGCE. Further information about PGCE with QTS options is provided below.

If you are a qualified teacher who already has Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), but not the PGCE academic qualification QTS sometimes comes with, you will find this course useful in progressing your career.

Holding a PGCE can open up a range of career opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. It strengthens applications for senior and middle leadership roles, makes you more competitive in the job market, and is often a requirement for teaching positions in independent schools and overseas. It also provides a strong academic foundation if you later decide to pursue further study, such as a master's degree or even a doctorate in education.
