Teaching is an extremely rewarding and challenging career. The Secondary Art and Design (School-Led) course from University of Chester is designed to provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to be an outstanding teacher. They aim to nurture teachers who are passionate about the development of their own and their pupils' learning.

During the course, you will learn how to encourage young people’s understanding of art and design through your subject specialism. They encourage Art and Design trainees to be:

enthusiastic and confident in the classroom

pedagogically skilful and adaptable

specialists in the teaching of Art and Design: demonstrating practical skills and a knowledge of subject history

able to see their subject in the context of the whole curriculum

competent in a number of areas that cross secondary school curriculum boundaries

able to work as part of a team

Your future career

A qualification in teaching has the possibility of leading to:

Senior Leadership Team roles in Schools (Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher etc.)

Specialist roles such as a Special Educational Needs & Disability Coordinator (SENDCo)
