Overview
The Adolescents Mental Heath and Resilience course from University of Strathclyde offers a unique combination of modules that take a strengths-based perspective and provide focused training in theoretical and practical issues that are directly relevant to the mental wellbeing of adolescents. It provides a balance of theoretical and practical elements and therefore provides students with the opportunity to improve their understanding and apply their knowledge to practical situations and problems, including the opportunity to undertake a professional placement with a relevant organisation.
This programme is aimed primarily at graduates of psychology and relevant disciplines, but those without a psychology background will also be able to utilise the skills they gain from this programme to go into careers in the health and social care sector.
Career opportunities:
The course will be or interest to students who are:
- psychology graduates and graduates from relevant subjects keen to develop their adolescent mental health-focused knowledge and understanding (theoretical and applied), and who are keen to work in applied settings.
- professionals from other sectors who are already working in or interested in moving to positions that require them to have specialist knowledge in adolescent mental health and resilience.
Please note that completion of this MSc does not provide a qualification for working as a practitioner or therapist in the UK. For a career as an applied psychologist (for example, clinical psychologist, educational psychologist, counselling psychologist) a doctorate is required. The MSc in Adolescent Mental Health and Resilience will provide foundational knowledge and transferable skills that are sought after in applicants applying to doctoral training programmes.
Where students come from backgrounds other than an undergraduate degree in psychology but would like to move into roles that involve working with and supporting adolescents, the course will equip them with knowledge and skills that make them competitive when applying for roles across different settings (e.g., in health and social care).
