Overview
Printmaking as a fine art discipline is firmly established within a long history of image making, technological advancements and political contexts. The Fine Art - Printmaking programme from University of the Arts London (UAL) encourages you to approach practical making through a critical lens, establishing clear connections between creating and thinking.
Using Camberwell’s extensive print workshops, you’ll be able to advance your practical skills and professional knowledge across a range of analogue and digital print processes. You’ll also have use of wider College workshop resources. You’ll work alongside your peers, academic staff, visiting artists and researchers across workshops and studios. This creates a space to celebrate the cultural diversity and inclusivity of print, as well as its ability to continually provoke questions about the world we live in.
What to expect:
- Developing your practice: Independent studio and workshop-based learning and material investigation supported by tutorial guidance, technical instruction and peer review.
- Critical reflection: the course will support you in the advancement of your critical analysis and reflection skills and your ability to synthesise conceptual and practical knowledge through tutorials, seminars, group crits, reading groups, workshops and lectures.
- Technical workshops: You’ll have access to Camberwell’s extensive specialist printmaking workshops including etching, lithography, screen, relief, and letterpress, alongside the digital workshops including large format printing, laser cutting and 3D printing. You can also access other College resources such as digital fabrication, wood, ceramics and metal workshops.
- A sense of community: You’ll take part in a wide range of group teaching and learning activities, visits, exhibitions and peer-led projects both with students from within MA Printmaking and Camberwell’s other MA Fine Art pathways.
- Enterprise and employability: The Professional Toolkit programme of talks and workshops gives you the knowledge and creative attributes needed to prepare for the future to sustain a rewarding professional life.
- Showcase your work: There will be opportunities to show and discuss your work and research through exhibitions and other public-facing events.
- Social, cultural and ethical contexts: You’ll explore key historical and contemporary discourses and debates surrounding Printmaking, fine art and wider culture including narratives of climate, racial and social justice.
- Support: Your learning will be aided by a range of university support services depending on your needs. This includes Academic Support, Disability Services, Language Support, Library Services and Careers and Employability.
