Overview
The Personalized Medicine (Research) course offered at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is focussing on different aspects of clinical and translational research, medical imaging, medical technical development and personalized medicine necessary to set up and carry out scientific research. The focus is broad and is not on a specific disease. Some examples are metabolic disorders in children, neurology, oncology, movement disorders and cardiovascular sciences.
Entering the job market; opting for a PhD or another career
Approximately 50% of all our students will start as a researcher in academia soon after graduation. Of course, other employers, such as pharmaceutical companies or biotech companies and policymakers are also interested in versatile students with your background.

General requirements
- Academic Bachelor’s degree in Health & Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences, Medicine or comparable.
- Preferably a minimum grade-point average of 7.5 (or international equivalent, e.g. a B+, or a GPA of 3.4); and a minimum grade of 8 (or international equivalent, e.g. an A, or a GPA of 4.0), for the Bachelor’s thesis. If you have lower grades, you are also welcome to apply for the programme.
- A clear motivation and talent for participation in the programme.
- Basic knowledge of Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Human Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology.
- Research experience (such as a research internship) is preferred.
- High level of academic and professional ability and oral and written proficiency in English at an advanced level.
- Pass the admission assessment test of the programme.
- Your marks for relevant courses, study progress and extracurricular activities will also be taken into account.
