Overview

The Biomedical Sciences - Science in Society course from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is a transdisciplinary programme that provides tools and strategies for understanding and approaching complex societal problems related to scientific and technological development.

It teaches students how to identify, analyse and manage complex societal problems. The programme is concluded with an internship in which the student applies the acquired knowledge and skills.

Having completed the Master's programme in Biomedical Sciences, your career prospects are broad and promising.

The societal specialisations will make you well prepared for a scientific position outside the standard domain of laboratory research, such as a career as a consultant, policy maker, manager, communications officer, scientific researcher or Biology teacher, and more. This could be at a university, research institute, government, industry, non-governmental or international organisation.

Your previous education needs to be deemed equivalent to at least a Dutch academic Bachelor’s degree obtained at a research university (nominal duration 3 years).

A minimum of 24 ECTS in Molecular biology, including at least 3 ECTS in each of the topics mentioned below:

Cell Biology;

Biochemistry;

Genetics.

A minimum of 24 ECTS in Human biology, including at least 3 ECTS in each of the topics mentioned below:

Immunology;

(Medical) Microbiology

At least one course in Statistics
