Overview
This Sport Performance and Analysis (Part-Time) MSc at Northumbria University is aimed at those with an interest in high-performance coaching and analysis.
You will study how we need to adopt a holistic approach to high-performance professional practice. One that not only has an emphasis on technical and tactical improvement, but importantly involves understanding individual, collective and organisational goals, developing and maintaining productive relationships, and constructively influencing a range of key stakeholders. The focus of the curriculum will be:
- How we co-ordinate and contribute to high-quality training environments
- How we analyse and support competition preparation and execution
- How we continually develop ourselves and mobilise others
- How we enact ethical practice and protect the welfare of people empowered to achieve their potential
The Sport Performance and Analysis MSc aims to build upon your current knowledge, understanding and practical experiences of training and coaching environments. It will equip you with leading-edge academic knowledge, along with key practical and research skills, to become a critically reflective practitioner who is prepared for a career in high-performance sport.
Your Career
On completion of this course, you will have gained the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career within the sport performance industry and supporting athlete development.
You will be encouraged to explore a range of career pathways throughout your degree. You will develop an understanding of contemporary ways of working within the sport performance industry by engaging with a range of employers, alumni and external agencies. You will be supported to engage with volunteering opportunities with our industry links. In previous years we have offered several Newcastle United FC and Sunderland AFC internships. This provides students with the opportunity to gain insight into a professional sports club and make contacts within the field.
To further enhance your career prospects, you can access our specials careers guidance and employability advice service. Northumbria also offers a range of self-help resources to help with your career planning, CV writing and interview preparation. This course aims to equip you with the skills that leading employers in this field are looking for. Upon graduation from this masters course, you will be able to begin a choice of careers within the sport performance sector. This could include a performance analyst, sports coach, sports therapist, member of a multi-disciplinary performance team and performance development officer to name but a few.

- A minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in a relevant subject area such as sports science, sports performance and coaching, physical education, physiotherapy, social sciences. Work experience in a relevant field and/or a professional qualification may also be considered.
